If you get your building consent issued before 31 October 2017, you will be able to choose between a low emission wood burner and an ultra-low emission wood burner.

It is important to have your building consent from the issued before 31 October 2017. If you miss this deadline you can only install an ultra-low emission wood burner.

Have you just purchased a house?

If the house you have just purchased has an open fire or older style wood burner then you must apply to Environment Canterbury to continue to use it during winter 2017. Otherwise it will need to be replaced immediately with a low emission or ultra-low emission wood burner. You will then need to make sure you gain consent and replace your open fire or older style wood burner before winter 2018.
